Meet the Founder/Author

Georgianna Karamitos

My life’s work and purpose have always been centered around helping give a voice to those who may be unable to use or find their own. I have been fortunate to carry several different roles throughout my life: as an elementary and high school teacher, a family lawyer, as well as a trauma-certified conflict management coach, facilitator, mediator and trainer who is passionate about helping families, schools, organizations and youth thrive through adversity. I also provide consulting services to families and schools for speech, language and communication skills development. The most important role, however, which I have carried throughout my life, is that of mother to my two beautiful children, Anthony (17) and Evianna (12) who are my life’s greatest inspirations, loves and blessings.

My books, my heart’s work, The Lock, The Key and The Missing Piece, consist of a 3-part true story series which is based on my son’s journey; a journey which was filled with overwhelm, uncertainty and confusion as we found ourselves in an unknown world of various diagnoses. These books are, however, meant to provide hope and comfort to children and families navigating their way through similar challenges. The Courage to Be Me, explores the world of a child who often feels his actions and behavior are misunderstood while My Heavy Backpack, explores the lives of various children who have to face traumatic experiences. Both of these books will hopefully provide a powerful lens for educators and adults who can gain a greater empathic insight into the lives of such children.

In addition to my 5 books, I have authored Stepping Stones: Educational Activities for Speech, Language and Communication Skills Development: Volumes I & II (over 300 pages each). These two volumes contain 80 activities, on 10 different categories of learning. These materials are based on over 15 years of research, consultation with experts, in the area of speech and language acquisition, professional experience as a teacher, and personal experience based on working daily with my son who was diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech, along with a multitude of other diagnoses. These volumes are my passion project which I created during a time when I felt overwhelmed, helpless and isolated in a world which had too many questions and too few answers. Hopefully, these materials created through a neuroscience lens, can now provide a source of hope and direction for other parents, but also for educators and others working with youth of all capabilities, both non-verbal and verbal.

All of my books and materials are a division of my publishing company, Marguerite Books, based in Canada.

Meet the Illustrator

Petros Stylianopoulos

All of these children’s books and speech, language and communication skills development volumes, would not have been possible without my collaboration with an amazingly talented illustrator, Petros Stylianopoulos. He carefully designed every vibrant illustration which is found in all of these materials in an attempt to bring to life the stories and the lessons found within these pages. His daughter, Demi, can actually be found illustrated within these pages, as well, in The Missing Piece! His portfolio includes a wide range of projects, beyond children’s literature, and he can be reached at petestyles007@gmail.com. He is based in Montreal, Quebec, CANADA.
