Written from the perspective of a non-verbal child, Anthony, who must not only deal with his Apraxia of Speech Disorder, but who must also navigate through physical and motor coordination issues as well as sensory processing challenges. Through his young eyes, we gain an understanding of what it might be like to experience life feeling different from his peers.
Based on a true story, The Lock is the first book in a 3-part series which includes The Key, as well as The Missing Piece.

Written from the perspective of a parent who is suddenly facing the overwhelming reality of her son’s multiple diagnoses including Apraxia of Speech, Dyspraxia and Sensory Processing Disorder. She works, alongside her child, to try to set free the words locked inside of him. Based on a true story, The Key is the second book in a 3-part series which continues to follow the story of Anthony, first introduced to us in the book, The Lock. The Missing Piece, in which we are introduced to his younger sister, Evianna, then concludes the three part series.

The Missing Piece is the third book in a 3 part series, which also includes The Lock and The Key. This third book delves into the perspective of a child born into a family with a brother who has various special needs. We gain insight and understanding into the fact that siblings face their own unique challenges as they attempt to navigate this situation and family dynamic. We also get a look into the beauty and healing power such relationships can have and how they can enrich the lives of one another.

Written from the perspective of a child who is filled with energy, creativity, curiosity and wonder, but who often feels he and his actions are misunderstood. Through his eyes, we gain an understanding that not all children are meant to fit into one uniform mold and that there is beauty in the uniqueness of each child.
This book provides an informative lens for parents, caregivers as well as educators, into the lives of children who may not fit into the traditional school setting construct. With a deeper understanding and a willingness to look behind their behavior, we can help these children thrive and meet their full potential.

Written from the perspective of various children who come to school carrying much more, in their backpack, than books. Children experience traumatic experiences which they are often ill-equipped to understand, to process and to discuss. Through their eyes, we gain insight into their world and we realize that a child often does not come to school in an optimal learning state. When we, however, take the time to look behind their behavior, and we take the time to help them regulate their nervous system, we help them open a path to healing and to growth.
Disclaimer: This book contains real life examples, of potentially traumatic experiences (divorce & separation, loss or absence of a parent, economic struggle, arguing at home…) which can be triggering for some readers. In turn, this book provides a level of comfort for these children in showing them they are not alone. It is also a guide for educators and adults in helping them better understand the weight these children carry and how to best support them.

Stepping Stones Educational Activities for Speech, Language & Communication Skills Development – Volume 2 – is a hands-on resource guide for families, schools and organizations which builds on, while extending beyond, the learning objectives introduced in Volume 1. This book is over 300 pages in length and it includes twenty detailed and fun activities! All the activities assist in further developing a child’s speech, language and communication skills through the introduction of eight new interesting categories of learning including: monosyllabic nouns, opposites, people identification, exploring emotions, verbs, categorization, sequencing and syntax and sentence building. Although the activities are designed, in sequential order, specifically for non-verbal children with speech delays or disorders, such as Apraxia of Speech, all the activities can be used by and are relevant for verbal and neurotypically developing children.
The use of hundreds of colorful and realistic unique illustrations, which can be used countless times, helps bring all of the activities to life while creating an immersive learning experience, for children, by engaging them with tactile and visual prompts.
This is Volume 2 of a two volume collection which, cumulatively, includes ten categories of learning. Each of the categories, which includes a minimum of one Beginner Activity and one Advanced Activity, represents a stepping stone into the next. All activities are suitable and adapted for both non-verbal and verbal children and incorporate varying levels of difficulty. Activities have been carefully crafted through a neuroscience-informed lens which understands the possibility of creating new neural pathways and connections, in a child’s brain, through the use of repetition, rhyme, music, illustrations and practice. All the activities are a result of over 15 years of personal, academic and professional research and experience and all have been put into practice with children diagnosed with mild to severe language delays or disorders; however, these activities have general appeal, interest and relevance for all young children, regardless of their speech, language or communication skills abilities. This Volume, and its compilation of activities, can provide parents, caregivers, educators, specialists, and all people working with children, an opportunity to help navigate the world of speech, language and communication skills development.
